Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park, located in the Rift Valley, has an area of only 331 km2. This park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, shelters around 300 mountain gorillas (there are only around 1000 gorillas in the world). The park also contains 120 species of mammals, 346 species of birds, 202 species of butterflies, 163 species of trees...
On this picture, one can clearly see the pressure people put on the parks. There is no buffer zone between the park and the forest. Farmers use as much land as possible.
Before reaching the park, we slept on the side of the road. The next day, the valley was filled with fog and was offering wonderful views.
The forest shelters mountain gorillas, and it is possible to see them. These gorillas have been habituated to human presence by the rangers who, for at least a year, go near them in order to make them less shy.
