Nyungwe Forest National Park
The Nyungwe Forest extends for 1015 km2 and protects the largest mid-altitude forest in Africa. It shelters a rich biodiversity with no fewer than 1050 species of plants (of which 200 are orchids), 85 species of mammals, 278 species of birds, 32 amphibians and 38 reptiles. The forest is mainly known for its 13 species of monkeys, among which are the chimpanzees.
We didn't go to see monkeys in this forest since it is an activity that we are going to do in Uganda because of the high costs of these activities. However, we have explored the road starting in the centre of the park and going towards Burundi. It is a public road seldom trodden and nothing was keeping us from exploring the surroundings forest (there were no rangers).
Here are a few photos taken in the park and its surroundings.
