Alongside Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu, located west of the country, extends for nearly 100 kilometres. It is also a border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This lake has a maximum depth of 480 metres and an area of about 2200 km2.

This lake doesn't have a rich fauna compared to other African lakes on this part of the continent. The lake is said to contain a higher than normal quantity of methane. For this reason, there are only 30 species of fishes in Lake Kivu (for comparison, there are a few hundred in Lake Victoria).

Border with Congo.

For me, Congo is the ultimate destination for adventure tourism. This vast country devastated by civil wars is nowadays a little bit more secure, but remains a region for adventurers and those with a taste for risks.
