Tipón is an Inca archaeological site located 22 km from Cusco near the town of the same name. The site is surrounded by an imposing defensive wall 6 km long. Scientific research has shown that the site was an important religious, ceremonial and administrative centre during the Inca period.

The central area was devoted to agriculture and ceremonies. It has a remarkable system of canals and fountains for irrigation. The Tipón complex was probably an Inca imperial estate or the home of an elite of the Inca hierarchy. The site is believed to have been continuously inhabited from 1000 BC until the end of the Inca Empire (1400 to 1572).
