Cusco
Cusco has been steeped in history for centuries, having been an important urban centre for both the Incas and the Spanish. Even today, the city is economically important and is visited by over a million people every year.
Legend has it that the historic city of Cusco was founded in the 16th or 17th century. The first Inca ruler, Manco Capac, and his wife Mama Occlo are said to have established Cusco after their birth in Lake Titicaca.

The markets of Cusco
Visiting markets is my favourite activity in big cities. It's always colourful and they sell a whole range of items; everything is there, items for day-to-day living, food, medicinal herbs, spices...
The way food is sold is always surprising. The cuts of meat over the counters and the storage conditions are very different from those in Quebec.
