Swakopmund and Walvis Bay

Swakopmund

Namibia was once a German colony. Therefore, the city architecture has a strong German influence. For us, it is the nicest town that we had the chance to visit in this country. Even though it is a highly touristy place in high season, during the low season it is quite nice to stroll around.

There, we visited a museum and a tiny aquarium.

The aquarium contains some nice displays. The tunnel was impressive.

The museums in Namibia contain numerous artifacts that are 1 or 2 century old.

Walvis Bay

Walvis Bay doesn't measure up to Swakopmund regarding beauty. It is a much more industrial city and less touristy. It is in fact the port of entry for merchandise import in Namibia. In fact, we have just driven through the city without stopping.

Near the city, there is a huge salt production plant.

Wow, there is a lodge at the very end of this sandy peninsula. It is not easy to reach it since the 18 km track is all in soft sand.
