Luderitz and around
In certain respects, Luderitz is somewhat similar to Swakopmund. The German influence is everywhere in the architecture of the houses and churches. There are good restaurants, cafes and bakeries.
Contrary to its rival, Luderitz is less touristy due to its remote location sandwiched by the Namib Desert and the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean in this region is really hostile. Its isolation has a negative impact on tourism development and its economy in general. The result is a slightly run down and poorer town.
Nevertheless, we liked this town a lot since it is very lovely and quiet.
Around Luderitz
Before reaching Luderitz, it is possible to see feral horses in the desert.
The peninsula south of the town is very nice. The coast is quite rocky and with the ever-present waves, the landscapes are lovely.
When we reached one of the beaches, we met some locals eating crayfish that they had just caught in their nets. They sold us two nice specimens, and we made an excellent meal out of them.
