Kaokoveld - part 2
Here is the second post on the Kaokoveld. You can see the first part by clicking the following link: part 1.
Epupa Falls
Epupa Falls are located on the Kunene River between Angola and Namibia. The river flows through a very arid region, but around the water the vegetation is prolific.
The river and the falls were magnificent. We were pleasantly surprised by the scenery that we saw. However, the pictures don't show well how beautiful the site was.
In the beginning, we thought that the fall was only this narrow gorge. It is already very nice, but the river splits in many parts each with a waterfall.
Marienfluss Valley
In the previous post, I was mentioning the drums we reached on our journey. North of the red drum, the Marienfluss Valley spreads over more than 80 km up to the border with Angola (until the Kunene River).
The valley receives some rains in season and is sometimes quite green. When we went there, the valley was very nice.
Hartmann's Valley
The Hartmann's Valley is much drier than the Marienfluss. It is nearer the coast that is part of the Namib Desert.
We saw this flower only once, in the middle of a very dry area.
On the photo below, we are in the far northwestern part of the Kaokoveld in a very sandy area. We are trying to go up the trail, but we can't manage it. Instead of getting stuck in the sand, we turned back at this point.
To get stuck could mean waiting for several days for someone to help us. It not worth taking such risk... It was already risky enough to go there alone with a van not well equipped for sand.
