Niassa Game Reserve

The Niassa Reserve is located in northern Mozambique. It is a vast territory split in a dozen concessions; some are for hunting, others for research, and some for luxury private lodges. There is only one zone for tourists...

Surrounded by hunting areas and victim of intense poaching, the Niassa Reserve is disappointing as far as seeing animals is concerned. The common animals such as impala and warthogs are not even seen and birdlife is quite low.

What makes this reserve somewhat interesting is its remoteness, the landscapes on the road to get there, and the landscapes inside the reserve as such. It is a vast territory with little development, but even so, there are a population of around 40000 inhabitants that lives within the reserve.

I have seen very few animals except for these baboons, a banded mongoose, and a few birds.

The reserve is huge... It's the third-largest wildlife sanctuary of Africa.
