Trek north of Kalaat M'Gouna
This trek over a few days in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains was with an organized group. In fact, my goal was to evaluate a French travel agency in the context of my work as a guide for Karavaniers. To the local guide, I was just a normal traveller as the rest. The trek, without being spectacular, was quite interesting. The dry scenery and the mountains were very nice.
On the map, I show only an approximative area for the trek since I don't know where I was exactly. I didn't do the trip that was initially planned and I ended up travelling with a group of people from three different agencies. Of course, I noted down the names of the villages where we slept, but even with these, it is difficult to plot the itinerary on a map. So we walked north of Kalaat M'Gouna, in the Valley of the Roses...
The problem with villages and mountains names is their spelling. Since there are names in Arabic or Berber, their writing in our Latin alphabet is phonetic and approximative. Finding these names on the map is difficult, since the spelling is wrong. Here is a real example with the town of قلعة مݣونة in Arabic or ⵜⵉⵖⵔⵎⵜ ⵏ ⵉⵎⴳⵓⵏⴻⵏ in Tamazight (Berber language). In French, these names correspond to Kelaat M'Gouna and Tighremt n'Imgounen, in English it's Kalaat M'Gouna or Tighremt NImgunen. On a topographical map, I have seen the name Qal'at M'Gouna. Finally, I noted the name given by the Moroccan guide as spelled by him, I wrote down Kela MGoun.
A search on the Internet with a few letters wrong, and nothing comes up... Here is the reason for the approximative itinerary.
