Tulum

Tulum - Quintana Roo - Mexico

Tulum is a small town, a spectacular beach, and an archeological ruin.

Yucatán is famous for its idyllic beaches, but Tulum has been the only one where I stopped. Curious? Not at all... I am not a beach fan, especially when they are overrun by tourists.

Tulum Ruins - Quintana Roo - Mexico

The Tulum ruins are not very impressive by themselves. However their location on the seashore makes the site a spectacular one.

Archeologists think that the city was occupied during 1200 to 1500 AD, and it was abandoned 75 years after the Spanish Conquest. It was one of the last cities to be abandoned; most of them have been already swallowed by nature when the Spanish arrived.
