Edward James's Las Pozas
Las Pozas is the creation of the British poet Edward James. It's a garden with surrealistic structures built between 1962 and 1984 in a subtropical forest near the town of Xilitla, in the state of San Luis Potosí. The site includes a network of natural waterfalls and pools, thus the name 'Las Pozas' : 'the pools.'
After the death of the poet, the site was abandoned for several years. Several structures are damaged, but in 2007 a foundation, with the help of the government and a company, bought the site for $2.2 million. The foundation is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the site which debuted in 2012.
The site is fantastic and the various structures in the jungle made me think about elvish buildings out of an imaginary world. Yes, I was imagining myself in elvish ruins from the world of 'Lord of the Rings' by Tolkien.
