Zomba Plateau

September 26, 2015  —  Malawi

The Zomba Plateau is a small rocky mountain of about 130 km2. Altitudes can reach up to 2,087 metres with cliffs of 1,200 metres.

Unfortunately, the forest is not in good health. It is cut down almost everywhere and there are many pine plantations. Despite this, it is a nice place to relax and enjoy a high-altitude climate colder than in the plains below.

A moment of joy

Zomba Plateau - Malawi

In the western world, it is relatively easy to find fruits year round. Here in Africa, for about four months, there was almost no fruit to find and eat.

When I reached the Zomba Plateau, everything changed. There were strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Moreover, a few days before, I found people selling mangoes on the side of the road...

It is going to be delicious... The photo shows only about half my stock.

How much is a mango in Quebec? In Malawi, I bought around fifteen for the low price of 500 kwachas (about $US 1).
