Dams in Lesotho
Katse Dam
A huge hydroelectric project is currently going on in Lesotho. It has started some 10-15 years ago and should go on for another 10 years. The project, if completed, will consist in five dams and several tunnels to bring water from one river to another.
Even though it is not possible to see the tunnel, they are up to 45 km long and can be used to bring water to the main dam if the water level becomes too low. These tunnels link two rivers on which dams have been built.
The most visible aspect of these dams is the flooded zone that each dam created. Of course, they are electrical pylons everywhere, but a big part of the rural houses in the mountains haven't got any electricity yet.
Despite the somewhat 'artificial' side of the flooded zones, the scenery is nevertheless magnificent and the villages very picturesque.
Villagers living around Katse Dam
Villages, everywhere in the highlands of Lesotho, are very picturesque. The people of Lesotho are very nice and are proud to be photographed and to be able to see themselves on the photo afterwards. The children are also quite nice even if the often ask for sweets as soon as a traveller go near them.

Five-star and more hotel
Sleeping in the bush... We are far away from everybody, it is quiet and in addition it is better than a five-star hotel. In fact, there are millions of stars.
