Jungle Junction's

Nairobi - Kenya

At the beginning of each trip, I present the modifications made on the vehicle. For this big trip, I stopped at Jungle Junction's in Nairobi. In this place, it is possible to have a car repaired and also to perform vehicle maintenance.

The car I own is not very common among overlanders, thus it took longer than anticipated before finishing the repairs on the vehicle. Moreover, I needed a roof rack to be installed. Thus, after 3 weeks in Kenya (2 weeks for Gitane), the vehicle was finally ready to go.

Despite the fact that repairs took a long time, we have relaxed and took a few beers. Gitane has visited a few of the attractions of Nairobi. She went to the giraffe centre and to the elephant sanctuary (see below in this post).

Jungle Junction's is now at a new address in Karen Hardy. The site is very nice and although a lot of improvements are still being made, it is a very enjoyable place where to stay. When we were there, the new site had been opened only a month before.

Here is the new vehicle for this third trip. There is a new roof rack on which I can put 4 jerrycans of diesel (80 litres), a spare tire and a shovel.

At the back of the vehicle, I made some major modifications. I installed a 60-litre electrical fridge, and I changed the gas cooker for a model that is twice the size of the previous one. I also have 2 jerrycans of diesel in the vehicle as well as two containers for water (40 litres).

Elephant Sanctuary

Since we had to spend a lot of time in Nairobi, we went for a visit of a few popular sites. Here is our visit to the elephant sanctuary.

The elephants, in this sanctuary, are babies whose mother has been killed by poachers. They are bottle-fed until they reach adulthood and they are then returned to the wild in a Kenyan Park.
