Mombasa
Mombasa is a major port city in Kenya. It is in fact an island linked to the continent by some bridges. It has been funded in 950 by the Arabs who were using it as a trading centre for spices, ivory, and gold. Little is known about Mombasa in that time. Some records are more readily available after the arrival of the Portuguese in 1331. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, Mombasa was an important centre for slavery.
The old part of Mombasa is interesting for its colonial architecture.
