Pacific Coast - part 2

December 19, 2019  —  Chile 2
Caldera - Chile

After my journey to the Nevado de Tres Cruces Park, I return to the coast for a few days.

You will find that even though beaches in Chile are sometimes very nice, there are very few people swimming in the sea. The average water temperature at Chilean beaches is only 16 degrees Celsius. This low temperature is due to the Humboldt Current originating near Antarctica that extends all over Chile and Peru.

Llanos de Challe National Park

Llanos de Challe National Park - Chile

I spent a night in the lovely coastal park Llanos de Challe. At the campsite, on the Playa Blanca (White Beach), a visitor kept me company during several minutes. Probably looking for leftover food, this small fox peacefully watched me while I was setting up camp.

As mentioned above, the beach is awesome, but the water is way too cold for swimming. I think that the water was way below the average of 16 degrees.

Despite the fact it is a park and at least one ranger is working at the entrance, the locals often drive on the beaches.

It is a bit disheartening to see!
