La Noria and the Pintados Geoglyphs
La Noria
La Noria is another oficina salitrera, a mining town where lives were revolving around digging for saltpetre used in nitrate plants.
Nowadays, there are only crumbling walls, a gazebo with some old objects, and an abandoned cemetery.
The cemetery of La Noria is similar to the one in Pisagua with its wooden crosses and graves. However, the one here is way more remote and without any kind of maintenance or surveillance. Thus, many graves were damaged by robbers looking for valuable objects.
A walk on the site is quite a gloomy prospect. It is possible to see completely broken tombs, and even some human skeletons. If you are afraid of ghosts, don't visit this place.
Pintados Geoglyphs
The site of Pintados is a magnificent fresco of more than 420 geoglyphs created on a hillside. There are geometrical, human, and animal shapes.
These works have been made between AD 500 and AD 1450.
Right after leaving the site of Pintados, I slept at this picnic facility. I was surrounded by walls protecting me from the wind or onlookers, and I had the place all for myself.
