Serrania del Hornocal and Cianzo

May 10, 2024  —  Argentina
Serrania del Hornocal - Argentina

The Serrania del Hornocal is a spectacular site also known as the Cerro de los 14 colores, or 'Hill of 14 colours'. This landscape was formed millions of years ago by layers of rock from different environmental environments and at different geological ages.

The layers are the result of the accumulation of sediments whose origins lie in very different environments such as deserts, rivers, lagoons and coastal areas. They were formed over different periods ranging from as long ago as 115 million years to as recently as 40 million years ago.
