Antofagasta de la Sierra and around

April 22, 2024  —  Argentina
Antofagasta de la Sierra - Argentina

A few kilometres south of the town of Antofagasta de la Sierra are two magnificent volcanoes. The older volcano, Antofagasta, erupted approximately 340,000 years ago. The younger volcano, Alumbrera, erupted 37,000 years ago.

Both volcanoes are easily accessible and I chose to hike to the top of the Antofagasta volcano, as the Alumbrera volcano seemed much more photogenic and I wanted to see it in the light at the end of the day.
