Puno - Lake Titicaca - Border with Bolivia

Puno

Puno is a small town on the shores of Lake Titicaca. At an altitude of 3,820 metres, the climate is cool but pleasant.

We made a brief stop there for logistical reasons; Thierry B. had to change his rear suspension which was completely dead, I had to repair the centre stand of my bike and we filled up on food and water.

Thierry and I checked the stator on my bike and found that there was a burnt phase. The bike still works, but I'm having voltage problems when I turn on the headlight or activate the heated grips.

Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca, at an altitude of 3,812 metres, is the highest navigable lake in the world, according to some sources. This freshwater lake is South America's largest in terms of length and volume. It is crossed by the Peru-Bolivia border.

Road from Collpa Jahuira to Muylaque

After a cold night's camping at an altitude of 3,960 metres, the water in Thierry's saucepan froze solid.

We're in the heart of the Peruvian-Bolivian Altiplano, and the cold is more intense than on previous days. The huge Lake Titicaca also contributes to lowering the temperature.

Camata

Small fiesta in the village of Camata. The locals were delighted to see us and invited us to join them in the community hall. They offered us food and a 750 ml beer, which the three of us shared.
