Rabat and Chellah Historic Site
Rabat is the political and administrative capital of Morocco and its population is 1,660,000 inhabitants.
Contrary to Casablanca, the city is rather charming since there is almost no tourist, and everyday life is much more relaxed. It is nice to walk around the local markets or around the medina narrow lanes.
Mausoleum of Mohammed V
The marble mausoleum of kings Mohammed V and Hassan II, grandfather and father of the current king. The cedar ceiling is covered in gold leaves.
Doors of Rabat
I like to walk the alleys in order to photograph Moroccan doors. Each owner seems to want to build a unique and beautiful door.
Historic Site of Chellah
At the site of Chellah, it is possible to explore the ruins left by the first occupants of the region of Rabat. Without knowing the exact date of the first settlers arrival or their numbers, historians claim that Romans eventually took control of the site in AD 40.
The place was deserted in 1154, but in the 14th century, Sultan Abou al-Hassan had a necropolis built on top of the Romans ruins and surrounded it by a fortified wall still visible nowadays.
