Lake Kyaninga, Bigodi, and Katunguru
Lake Kyaninga
During a long break between my groups, I decide to do an excursion in Uganda. After a long and uncomfortable 12-hour ride on a bus, I reach Fort Portal exhausted, but happy. A small anecdote worth mentioning, it is after this trip that the idea of travelling in my own vehicle started to take shape in my head...
In transit at Fort Portal, I met a young local guide and together we did a small bike tour to Lake Kyaninga north of the city. It was a very nice day since the area is really beautiful, and my guide was very pleasant.
Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary
The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a nice initiative of the local community. Together, they have protected a humid zone in order to preserve the biodiversity and the populations of monkeys. Tourists can visit the site with a local guide in exchange for a reasonable amount of money.
The sanctuary is tiny compared to the country's national park, but its wealth is undeniable. During a walk of a few hours, I was able to observe five species of monkeys.
Village of Katunguru
Katunguru is a small village enclaved in Queen Elizabeth National Park on the shore of Kazinga Channel. It is a very basic village, but an interesting one since almost no tourists ever stops here.
I stopped at this village in the hope of finding a means of transport to visit the park.
