Serengeti National Park

Serengeti, a name that conjured dreams long before I set foot there. Younger, I watched plenty of documentaries on African animals and it was so fascinating.

Nowadays, after several visits of the park, I still marvel at its beauty and the animals that can be seen.

As soon as the odour of blood fills the air, hyenas rush to investigate.

The Great Migration.

One of the best known highlights of Serengeti is the great annual migration. Some 1,7 million wildebeest, 260 000 zebras, 470 000 gazelles and thousands more herbivore herbivores a loop of a few hundreds kilometres looking for fresh pastures. This natural phenomenon is linked to rains, and the entire circuit encompasses Ngorongoro, Serengeti in Tanzania and Maasai Mara in Kenya.

The Serengeti is a vast plain with rare hills; thus it is difficult to really get a feel of the size of the migration. However, during a safari, the migration was there at the same time as we visited one of the only hills that can be climbed. At that moment, animals were visible as far as the eyes can see; it was a magical moment.

Yes, there is an animal hidden in the high grass... a leopard.
